ImageGet On The Reminder List

You should sign up to get our weekly e-mail reminder that is sent every Friday when a new issue is published. This is free and it just takes a moment to set up.

  1. Click "No Account Yet? Create one" in the Log In/Out section below the blue button menu.
  2. Fill in the form. We need your real e-mail address because the system sends you a confirmation mail so we know you are you. When you click the "Send Registration" button the confirmation e-mail is automatically sent to you. *
  3. You are ready to go! Now you will be reminded when a new Star is published.

If you want to post on the message board you must log in with your user name and password.  At the moment the message board and the e-mail reminder are the only things the log-in are used for.

* You e-mail address is not shared with anyone, ever. We use it to send you the confirmation mail when creating your account, plus we send an e-mail once a week when a new issue has been published. If you do not wish to receive the weekly e-mail log in and then click the Your Details button and un-check "Subscribe to E-mail Alerts."

Where to Find Things

ImageLike most newspapers, The Lansing Star Online is divided into sections, including News, Sports, Entertainment & Arts, Business & Technology, Classifieds and so on. The blue menu on the left side has these section headings. Click on them and you will see more menu items. For example when you click on News you will see Weather, Editorials, National News, and so on.

ImageRule of Thumb: Think of the blue buttons as sections and the orange links that drop down when you click on a section as pages within the sections.

Many of the sections have submenus. As in a traditional newspaper you will find weather in the front section (News). You'll find news of schools, worship, kids and pets in Around Town. Don't forget to try the crossword puzzle each week in the Entertainment section.

From time to time the pages may change. If we find readers are very interested in a particular topic we may add a page, or remove pages that are of less interest. But the Star will maintain the same overall layout.

Searching

You can search for articles of interest by typing a search word into the space at the upper right hand corner, or by clicking the "Search" button on the menu and typing your search words on the resulting page. Search finds archived articles as well as newer ones.

Archives

Older stories are available when you click the "Archives" button. Choose the month you want to view stories from and they will be shown. You may also find older stories by using the Search page (see above).

ImageWhen you think things are not working and want help, you will find the "Technical Support" page in the "Contact Us" section.

Special Links

Links in the Star are orange. When you click on a link it takes you to the page it refers to. Sometimes there are special links on a page.

Advertisements are one kind of special link. They are special in more ways than one, because our advertisers make it possible to offer the Star to you for free. We ask you to click on their links and to do business with them, because they are truly the ones who make all this possible.

ImageOn the front page Today's Lansing Weather is a special link. Clicking on it will bring you to the Weather page, a quick way to get the Lansing forecast and make plans for the week.

ImageStar of the Month takes you to the page where we honor outstanding Lansing residents. Keep checking each month to see who is truly a Lansing Star.

Some Nifty Tricks

ImageWhen reading an article like this one you may notice three buttons on the upper right of the article.

The first one allows you to view the article in PDF form if you have the free Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. While it does not show pictures, the advantage to the PDF version is that you can re-scale the text. If you have trouble seeing small print this makes it much easier to read the stories in a text size of your choice.

The second button pops up the story in its own page so you can print it to read off-line. Once the new window appears, click the printer button at the upper right to print the story.

The third button is for sharing stories you love with your friends. A window pops up that sends a link to the story to your frined in an e-mail message.

Experiment

Try clicking around the Star. You will be an expert before you know it. We hope you will enjoy it, send us news of your events, and help support us when you want to advertise.
