mcpheeters120The Legacy Foundation of Tompkins County has contracted with Jean McPheeters, of Jean McPheeters Consulting LLC, to serve as its new Director of Development.

James Brown, the president of the Legacy Foundation, said “I am so pleased that Jean McPheeters will be providing assistance to the board of directors as we seek to increase our stewardship of donors and expand our ability to support programs and projects throughout the Tompkins County communities.”

Ms. McPheeters retired in 2014 as the president of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and started Jean McPheeters Consulting LLC, which focuses on small business management and board development.  She currently serves on several board of directors, including the Cayuga Health System and Cayuga Area Plan, Inc. as well as the Tompkins County Area Development Foundation.

She served for many years on the boards of Tompkins Cortland Community College and the TC3 Foundation, the Paleontological Research Institution, Tompkins County Area Development, the Workforce Investment Board of Tompkins County, the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency, and the Community School of Music & Arts, and has also served on the boards of several other local, state, and national organizations.

She has worked as a congressional aide and district administrator for Congressmen Matthew McHugh and Maurice Hinchey, and as a community education coordinator for Tompkins Seneca Tioga BOCES. Jean and her husband, Daniel McPheeters, live in a log home that they built in the Town of Caroline.

The Legacy Foundation supports programs and projects in the areas of health, education, recreation, human and social services, aging, and the arts in Tompkins County.
