spca cats120The Rook restaurant, located on Ithaca's west end, and Madeline's Restaurant, an Ithaca commons mainstay, are participating in International Negroni Week to raise summer funds for the SPCA of Tompkins County this week.

"We are thrilled that we are the beneficiary of ongoing community support." says Jim Bouderau, Executive Director.

Throughout this week, both restaurants will donate $1.00 from each of these popular drinks sold to the SPCA of Tompkins County.  Negroni Week launched in 2013 as a celebration of one of the world's great cocktails and an effort to raise money for charitable causes around the world. From 2013 to 2014, Negroni Week grew from more than 100 participating venues to more than 1,200 participating venues around the world and more than $120,000 raised for charities. In 2015, more than 3,500 venues around the world mixed their favorite Negroni variations and raised over $320,000 for charitable causes.

Bouderau says he can't stress enough the importance of local support.

The SPCA sees its largest influx of animals throughout the summer months. 'Kitten season' during this time brings in 450-500 kittens alone each year from June through August.

"We are not government funded; we rely on the generosity of this community, and their belief in our mission, to make the work we do possible," Bouderau adds. "Having the resources during our busiest time to do the work we need to is crucial in our summer months.  We love that businesses think of fun and creative ways to support us and are very grateful for their generosity."

International Negroni Week runs from June 6-12, 2016.
