Today the very last of the original Karavan Canines was adopted. That hold out was Angela -- the mom to 8 pups. She is very happy in her forever home playing and getting to know the other dogs in the house. This month is busy at Meadowridge with our regular work as well as neutering most of the 17 puppies that came from Louisiana. Thanks to all of the donors and the supporting drug companies some of the cost of this has been defrayed.

We still don't have the date for the next Karavan -- but the Shelter in New Orleans will take us whenever we get there.

There are now 6 Bahama canines here. Two of them are already in permanent homes -- Roxy the Rottweiler and Angie the "potcake". They are both very sweet. We are thinking that Mickey the Shepard crosas will go to Shaker Animal Hospital in the Albany area where they have a good network for Shepard and their shyness. Poor Mickey spent 4 hours hiding in a closet -- after the long flight he'd never been in a house before.

That leaves 3 to find homes Tricky and Cookie have spent at least 5 months together in the shelter and it would be great to place them together. They are neutered and Tricky has been treated for heartworm this week.

Mike has quite a story. The shelter manager in the Grand Bahamas has known of him for 2-3 years. She had offered to take him several times, but his owners always said "no" then would leave him behind. In 2004 he had been left behind after his owners moved away after their house was totaled by a hurricane. At some point he broke a foreleg but it has healed. The cute kink in his tail he came by naturally. Finally he jumped in the shelter van and left his home on his own. Bridget Barry thought he was too cute to leave behind.

All of these dogs are currently at the Boarding Barn where kennel space has been graciously provided for them. If you are interested in any please call Sharon at 533-7661 that's Animal Services of North Lansing -which is both the Boarding Barn and Meadowridge Vet Clinic. We would really like to have these pets placed before the next shipment- some of which will be pups so I’m told. We're still working on the web site- so you'll have to come in person.
Again thanks to the generosity of this great community- Meadowridge has been able to help save a few of the critters from the devastation on Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma. We hope to continue this great work.
