Chicago —The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is announced that John C. Comisi, DDS, MAGD, of Ithaca, N.Y., was elected as the association’s speaker of the house during the AGD 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibits, held June 27 to 30 in Nashville, Tenn.

“I am excited about serving in this position and working alongside the dedicated and passionate leaders of the AGD,” says Comisi. “I will work hard to cultivate an atmosphere that encourages the sharing of opinions and ideas, improving not only this organization, but also the field of dentistry.”

An AGD member since 1990, Comisi has been involved with the organization in numerous ways on both the local and national levels. He has held many positions with the New York State AGD, including president, and he has served as a delegate or alternate delegate to the AGD House of Delegates since 1991. He is a member of the IT Oversight Task Force, and previously was a member of the AGD Budget & Finance Committee and AGD Group Benefits Council. He also has served as a member or chair of many AGD Board committees during his tenure, and he currently is an AGD spokesperson.

Comisi lectures both nationally and internationally and has contributed to dental literature in  publications such as General Dentistry, Dental Economics, and Inside Dentistry. He is a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. In 2004, he received the New York State AGD’s Meritorious Service Award.

Comisi is a 1983 graduate of Northwestern University Dental School and has been in full-time private practice for more than 30 years in Ithaca. He and his wife, Karen, cumulatively have four children and eight grandchildren.
