cargill3 120Cargill's Cayuga road salt mine won the National Mine Association Sentinels of Safety Award for 2013 in the large underground, non-mental group. The purpose of the annual Sentinels of Safety award program is to recognize achievement of outstanding safety performance in mining operations.

This program was initiated in 1925 by then-Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover. It is the oldest established and nation's most prestigious award recognizing mining safety.

"We have about 200 people who work very hard every day to make winter driving safe," said Shawn Wilczynski, mine manager. "We also work hard at doing our work safely and that is reflected in this award."
