wellsWells College announced Thursday that alumna Tracy Hope Davis '86 will be the speaker for the College's 147th Commencement ceremony, held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, in front of Macmillan Hall on the Wells College campus in Aurora, N.Y. Ms. Davis has provided an authoritative voice on legal matters for many years as she has pursued a highly successful and influential career.

"I am very excited to be asked to give this address," said Davis. "Personally, this is one of my life's greatest honors. It feels like coming full circle."

Davis has been a part of the U.S. Trustee Program since she joined as a trial attorney in 1997. She served as Assistant U.S. Trustee and Acting U.S. Trustee in various locations in New York before being appointed U.S. Trustee for New York, Connecticut and Vermont (Region 2) in August 2010. In 2013, Attorney General Eric Holder appointed Ms. Davis as U.S. Trustee for Northern and Eastern California and Nevada, an office which she currently holds. Before joining the U.S. Trustee Program, Ms. Davis practiced bankruptcy law in New York City and served as law clerk to the Honorable Cornelius Blackshear, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York (retired).

Over the past decade, Davis has been closely involved in a wide range of bankruptcy issues in some of the largest and most complex bankruptcy cases in this country's history, including Bethlehem Steel, Adelphia Communications, Lehman Brothers, Chrysler Corporation, General Motors, Lyondell, General Growth Properties, Kodak, Dynegy, MF Global, ResCap, American Airlines, Hostess, Hawker Beechcraft, Dewey LLP, among others. As a nationally recognized expert, she has participated in many panels for national, state and local organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute and the National Bar Association, and has lectured extensively at the National Advocacy Center on bankruptcy issues.

Davis received her law degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark, N.J., and her bachelor's degree, with honors, from Wells College in 1986. She has served in various capacities as a Wells College alumna, including as a member of the Wells College Board of Trustees and as a vice president on the Board of the Wells College Association of Alumnae and Alumni.
