Washington, DC - Congressman Tom Reed announced a $251,327 grant last week to provide the Sciencenter in Ithaca with funding to develop a touring exhibition.

"We care about ensuring our friends and neighbors have fair access to local museums," Reed said. "This grant enables the Sciencenter to develop additional hands on educational opportunities for our community."

"We are extremely excited to have received Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) funding for the Engineer. Design. Build. Project," Sciencecenter Executive Director, Dean Briere said. "Hundreds of thousands of children and families throughout the country will tap into their natural curiosity and creativity by engaging with this exhibit. Engineer. Design. Build. will be developed and premiere in the Southern Tier before joining the Sciencenter's eleven other exhibits that travel to museums, big and small, throughout the country. We are grateful for the support from IMLS, an independent federal agency that transforms the lives of individuals and communities."

The Sciencenter is a non-profit hands-on museum in Ithaca, NY. Founded in 1983, the Sciencenter has grown from a volunteer-run science program at a local elementary school to become the nationally recognized museum that it is today, hosting 100,000 guests in Ithaca each year and reaching over 1.5 million guests worldwide with traveling exhibitions. The Sciencenter is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and Association of Children's Museums (ACM).
