Sophistocrats2After months of creative collaboration Treleaven Wines is excited to reveal their newly rebranded sweet wines, the Treleaven Sophistocrats, to benefit the Tompkins County SPCA.

The line is made up of three sweet wines formerly known as the Saumon, Gilded Lily and Mystére.  The update includes imaginative, playful labels of illustrated animals, as well as the SPCA branding on the foil capsule.  A portion of the purchase price will be donated to the Tompkins County SPCA in their continuing work to advance the safety and well being of animals in the local area.

"We're excited to introduce our distinctive new labels for our three sweet wines," explained Lev Saltonstall, Treleaven Wines Vice President. "They are fun and light-hearted with shelf-popping colors, and hopefully they will resonate with consumers.  We want people to not only enjoy the wines, but to want to learn more about the cause."

The Saltonstall family has rescued their fair share of dogs, including current household member Maggie, which made choosing a local organization to support an easy decision.

"We wanted to pick an organization that is dear to our hearts," Lev continued. "Between my whole family there have been eight rescued animals and they have brought joy to our lives everyday.  We're hoping the proceeds raised from the Sophistocrats will help other animals find their forever homes and bring the same joy to their new families."

Bottles with the new labels will be introduced to the market gradually, as the new vintages are released, and the full transition is expected to be complete by summer 2016.  The first wine to be released with the new label is Bruno, formerly known as the Mystére.

"The SPCA of Tompkins County is profoundly grateful to be featured in this gorgeous array of wines from Treleaven Winery," said Lynne Conway of the Tompkins County SPCA.  "The exposure for our shelter, and the financial support this will bring, will help cover medical costs for the 2,000+ animals that come through our doors each year."

The first wine to be released, Bruno, has notes of blackberries and cloves, cherry Danish and cinnamon. This red table wine was stainless steel fermented and meant to be served chilled.  You'll find it a delicious match with BBQ, Thai-style chicken salad, or strawberry shortcake and mixed berries.

The second of the three Sophistocrats is Jinx, formerly known as the Saumon. There are aromas of orange zest, honey and tangerine sorbet with a tangy strawberry creamsicle finish.  A very pleasant summer sipper, or pair with Thai food.

The final Sophistocrat, Charlie, is a 100% Vidal Blanc estate-grown wine.  There is fresh orange blossom on the nose, followed by notes of cantaloupe, pink grapefruit and melon.  This white wine, formerly known as the Gilded Lily, is a fruit driven picnic wine with a plump, luxurious texture.  This wine is exceptional with Thai-style chicken salad, chicken souvlaki with tzatziki sauce and grilled salmon and lemon.

"From naming, to brand storytelling and the final label designs, our entire Treleaven team was involved," said Michelle Kokot, Treleaven Wines Marketing Manager. "We would like to thank Lisa Peacock and Chris Mohler from Designing North for designing the labels, as well as Lynne Conway and the whole crew at the Tompkins County SPCA for allowing us to be a part of such an amazing cause."

The winery will be holding a Wine Preview Party on Friday, July 22 from 6PM - 9PM to benefit the SPCA of Tompkins County.  The evening will feature live music from The Peletones, food from 1010BBQ and wine and beer.  Wine & Design Ithaca will be hosting a Paint Your Pet session and local pet-friendly vendors will be available.  All money raised from the basket raffle, as well as five percent of the Sophistocrat wine sales during the evening, will go to the SPCA.
