Boys Basketball Takes IAC Championship Print

ImageThe boys basketball team complete their league play by winning the IAC overall championship.  Lansing completed the regular season with a 10-0 division record and entered the semi-final with a 17-1 record. Lansing Played TAE in the semi-final on Thursday night and beat the Spartans 55-47.

Lansing was led by Teagen Barresi who had 25 points and Charlie Hatfield who had 11 points.   The key was the rebounding and defense and Lansing held Edison's top scorer to 8 points.

Lansing Bowlers Take Second at Waverly Tournament Print

ImageOn 2-9-08 all IAC teams came together at Waverly to roll in the final IAC event of the season, all toghether there were over 160 bowlers both girls & boys all wanting to finish first today. There was plenty of excitment from the opening ball being rolled as High average for girls & boys get this honor.

Saturday Megan Patterson from Waverly & T J Williams & Joe Stiener from Tioga (yes these two boys tied for high average with a 220). This just started the day as Lansings ninth grader Trevor Rounds started with the first seven strikes en route to a 235 game. Not to be outdone, Lansings Phil Kulis rolls the first eleven the next game for a 298 game and Grotons John Hilker and Waverly's Micheal Beard start the third game with 9 & 8 each.

Lansing Swimmers IAC Champs for 5th Season in a Row Print

The Lansing Boys' Varsity Swim Team are the IAC League Champions for the 5th consecutive season.  On February 9, 2008, the team took first place in the IAC Championship Swim Meet at EFA (Elmira Free Academy). Among the highlights were an IAC league record, a pool record, 4 meet records, a new Lansing school record, and a relay team state qualifying time.

The final team scores were:  1st place – Lansing (298); 2nd place – Waverly (263); 3rd place – Dryden (239).

Lansing's senior All-American swimmer, Jake Sangren, was the meet's MVP.  In the 200 individual medley, Jake eclipsed his previous Lansing school record (1:59.68) with a new time of 1:57.96.  This time is also a new IAC league record, meet record and state qualifying time.  The old time of 1:58.96 was set in 2000 by Waverly's Pat Fell.  In the 100 backstroke, Jake recorded a new EFA pool record, meet record and state qualifying time of 52.04.  He was also part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team and 2nd place 400 freestyle relay team.

Shooting Stars Win 2, Lose 2 Print

ImageDuring the Feb. 9-10 weekend, the Ithaca Shooting Stars 13U, 14U, 16U and 19U teams were all in action.

The 19U Shooting Stars defeated the Cornell Club team 3-1 with Sarah Eisenhut stopping 10 shots in goal.  Lauren Cole scored twice and Katie Long once. Emily Eisenhut and Colleen Dillon assisted.

Ithaca 16Us defeated the Tri-County Eagles 19Us, 5-3 with Long notching a hat trick, and single goals by Janesa Cornish and Emma Hassen. Assists were made by Erin Grainger, E. Eisenhut, Dillon and Hassen. Annabelle Jones stopped 13 shots.

Youth Football Field Could Come by Fall Print

The Lansing Recreation Department Youth Football program has been a bit of an orphan in the sense that the Town doesn't have dedicated football fields for them to play on.  Football players have been limited to two home games per year because of the complexities of scheduling and reconfiguring existing ballfields.  If a plan Town Board members were shown at their Wednesday meeting goes smoothly it is possible that the players will have their own field as soon as this Fall's season.  "I know they're working on the cost analysis for it right now," says Lansing Supervisor Scott Pinney.  "If they can raise the money in the next few months they could actually have this field to play on in the Fall."
