Paced by the three captains,juniors Vernon Nabinger, and Curtis Fenner,and freshman Kyle Dake, the Lansing wrestling team already eclipsed last years three wins by posting a 5-2 dual meet mark. In the past week alone we have had 4 dual meets and beat Thomas Edison, Watkins Glen, and Walton, while losing a tight match to Marathon 39-30. After a very close first game the Lansing Boys team fell off the pace in the second game. They rebounded with a brilliant third game to edge Waverly on there home lanes 2980 to 2975. Watkins Glen took third with a 2663 series. High scores for the league were Watkins Glen's Lukas Buckman 243/669 & TAE Zack Smith 229/669 Wav. Marcus Beard 235/654 and Tioga's Joe Steiner 259/646. On the Girls side Waverly easily out rolled everyone shooting 2796 powered by Megan Patterson 227/633, Elyse Zobel 211/617 & Kayla Rought 201/593. Watkins Glen was second with a 2277 paced by Melanie Blauvelt 209/523, third was TAE with 2252. Lansing girls were 5th again. All teams back in action on Tuesday and then the IAC Holiday Tournament on 12/28/05 @ Waverly. ---- v1i23 |

Lansing's Varsity Bowling teams challenged Waverly on 12/6 in a home game at the Helen Newman Lanes on the Cornell Campus. "My boys did not bowl all that well," says Coach Doug Volbrecht, "but came away with three points out of four." Dan Baldini earned the high score with 222/597 series, followed by Ricky Newton at 549 and Tyler Clark at 540. The girls didn't do as as well. Brittany Mainville scored 210/498 and Kristy Sullivan 167/478. Next was an away game at Horseheads, the first "big house" tournament of the season. "This past weekend was not an easy one for any of the IAC Bowling teams," says Coach Volbrecht. Lansing finished in second place with the top three Boys teams Watkins Glen (2666), Lansing (2581) and Waverly (2511). Kyle Christopher (226/608) and John Siedman (223/577) were Lansing's top scorers. Waverly (2372), Watkins Glen (2363) and TAE (2244) were the top three girls teams in the tournament. |

The Varsity Boys basketball team is having a great season so far with three wins and no losses. The team beat Trumansburg in the opener 52-44 and was led by Ryan Shaff who scored 15 points. The team took a 20 point lead at one point only to see it get cut to 6 late in the game. A few big baskets late secured the win. The Bobcats then traveled to Dryden where they beat a very good Dryden team 47-42. Again the bobcats lost a big lead and held on for the win. The team was led by Senior Treyson Barresi who scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. |

The first annual Ithaca Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament was held Friday December 2 through Sunday December 4, 2005. After five years of hosting tournaments under the Silver Stick name, Tompkins Girls Hockey Association selected to run an independent format event. Twenty-two girls ice hockey teams competed in games at The RINK and at Cass Park in four age divisions:12U, 14U, 16U and 19U. SUNDAY The 19U Shooting Stars won the 19U division championship defeating the Niagara Coyotes 3-1. Allyson Granish had a hat trick to lead the Ithaca offense. One goal was unassisted, one was helped by Emily McPherson and the other by McPherson and Emily Grippin.They advanced to this game by beating the Lady Patriots of Philadelphia 6-1. Megan Nervina scored twice while Grippin, Deanna Sturdevant and Robin Worsell of Lansing each notched one. McPherson had three assists. The Patriots goalie made 34 saves in the loss. Niagara advanced by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 19Us 8-1. Roseane Kirbis scored two goals for the Coyotes while six other girls scored the balance in the win. |
