Two events are coming up to introduce girls to the sport of ice hockey on Monday, October 17 and Monday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at The RINK on East Shore Drive, just north of Ithaca. Tompkins Girls Hockey Association will host new girls at "Try Girls Hockey" on the 17th and "Open House" on the 24th. Both events are free and open to the public. No advance registration is needed.
On October 17, girls who have not played ice hockey before are invited to try on equipment and participate in a fun learn-to-play evening run by TGHA President Carol Mullins with help from members of the Ithaca Shooting Stars teams and the TGHA Initiation and House League programs.

Lansing's Varsity Cross Country team did well at the Divisionals in Groton on Tuesday (10/11). "We lost Pete Lee - but continue to do well," says coach Daryl Hill. The Boys team won the meet with 44 points. Lansing competed against Marathon, Moravia, So. Springs, and Trumansburg Phil Abbott placed 2nd, Brian Mulvey 6th, Frank Massi 7th, Mark Bailey 8th and Srdjan Rackov 21. In Girls Cross Country Kylee Jordan placed 3rd.

Lansing maintained it's lead in Girls Swimming and Diving with a 8-0 record for the season so far when the Varsity team beat Southern Cayuga 63-31 (10/11). The unstoppable Lansing team took first place in nine of the eleven events. Starting off, Hannah Wingate, Becky Mapes, Nikki Dean, Rachel Bland took first in the 200 Medley Relay, completing the relay in 2:04.92. In the 200 yard Freestyle Kali Dean finished first in 2:05.78. Caitlin Wright continued the winning streak, finishing first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:34.90.

Lansing's Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team is unbeatable with two more wins last week. In the Thursday September 29 meet Lansing beat Elmira Height's Thomas A. Edison (TAE) team 87 to 70. In the TAE meet at Elmira Heights the Lansing team took first place in eight out of twelve events. Leigh Conley, Nikki Dean, KC Hatfield and Hannah Wingate took first place in the 200 Medley Relay in 2:14.44. Caitlin Wright finished first in the 200 Free in 2:15.24 and Rachel Bland finished first in the 200 IM in 2:52.78.

Senator Mike Nozzolio was recently honored by being among the first inducted into the Finger Lakes Youth Sports Hall of Fame. Senator Nozzolio was recognized for his outstanding support for youth sports programs throughout his district, especially those for children and adults with disabilities.
