Restaurant Review: Simeon's Redux Print
Katrina Binkewicz
Friday, 25 January 2008
"Simeon's?", you say. "Why that used to be a great place to eat in ‘the day', but the service and general attention to detail has gone downhill in the last few years. In fact, you might have stopped there for a drink in the delightful, old world atmosphere, but probably continued on down the street to eat at any number of delicious eateries on Aurora Street.

But hold your horses! A change in ownership of Simeon's has made this the place to check out new gastronomic talent. The flavors were reminiscent of Dano's respectful, talented treatment of meat, Renee's international bistro forte, with an attention to detail and playfulness all their own.

Windows For the Soul Print
Dan Veaner
Friday, 18 January 2008
ImageEarly last December Lansing's All Saints Catholic Church got an early Christmas present when the first seven stained glass windows were installed.  The windows were designed by local artist Tony Serviente and made and installed by Ithaca's Serviente Studios .  "Like everything else that we approached we wanted to do things locally," says All Saints' Administrative Assistant Dave Lippert.

Many of the church's elements are locally made.  Lansing wood carver Bob Nagle made the statue of the Risen Christ above the alter.  A mosaic baptismal font was made by Ithaca artist Linda Blossom.  The alter, the ambo and the presider's chair was made by  and Brooktondale's Elizabeth Wolf, and designed by Ithacan Mary McTiernan.  Ithacan Bill Bakerturning made walnut candlesticks and an ambry.  The window frames were made by Steve Peck of Trumansburg, who is known locally as 'The Wood Doctor.'

Bruce Barber
Friday, 18 January 2008

On Sunday, January 13th the Lansing Youth Mission Group got up bright and early to server up a wonder Pancake breakfast. The breakfast was held at the Applebee's restaurant and over 240 meals were served. The group raised over $1,700 through the generosity and support of Lansing community.

The money raised will help pay for Group members to travel to Guatemala in February, March or April. The groups will help build stoves for families who cook over open fires in their homes.

Dear IMO,

I have been following the primaries with great interest. I have my own candidate in mind, and am very vocal when talking about him with friends. At work, my cubical is decorated with his photo and a campaign bumper sticker. Everyone knows where I stand, but some of my co-workers think my enthusiasm is a bit much. My boss hasn't said anything about the political discussions at the office, so I haven't toned it down. Should I be worried? Are my co-workers right?

Jill

Dear Jill,

Enthusiasm is a great motivator and often has positive results. Whether or not you are over the top in discussing politics at work is a matter of office policy. If, as you have stated, your boss has not said anything to you, that may be a good sign. But to be on the safe side, you ought to ask your boss what is the company/office policy concerning political campaigns and associated discussions.
