The Star Recommends...
star1.gifHere at the Lansing Star we deal with Web and Internet issues every day.  We thought you would be interested in things we like and use ourselves when you are considering your own Web sites.  Here are our reviews of various services and products we use.  We'll be adding more as time goes on.

In 2008 when we outgrew the hosting we were using for the Lansing Star and our other Web sites we did a lot of research, looking for hosting plans that could handle our rather large archive or articles and pictures at an affordable price.  We looked at hundreds of reviews of hosting companies.

Most hosting company reviews included the good, the bad, and the ugly.  They had as many bad reviews as good, if they were lucky.  Hostgator had very few bad reviews.

After using three or four different domain registrars over the years it became obvious that GoDaddy was the best.  They offer good prices and good service.  We liked them so well that we became a reseller.  Click on Star1Domains.com for our domain name store.  We offer a log of Web products there, but you just can't beat the domain name service.  Getting them from Star 1 Domains helps the Lansing Star a little bit, as well as getting you a really great service at a really great price.

ImageI know it is immodest to recommend myself.  But if I don't do it, who will?  I specialize in setting up Web sites you can manage yourself without any special knowledge of HTML or programming.  I set up and customize a Content Management System, the same one we use for the Lansing Star.  Once I have set up the look and feel of your site I train you to put your own content into it.  The training typically takes an hour.  If you can use a simple word processor, you can put content onto your site.

I'm happy to do more work than that at my hourly rate, but if that setup is all you need it is a one-time up-front cost.  So it is an economical way to get a great Web site that you can control yourself.
