Last week I wrote about why you should contribute to the North Log Cabin. The cabin was built in 1791, not long after the event we will all be celebrating tomorrow, many of us by devouring delicious chicken barbecue in Myers Park. One of the reasons I am so fired up about the cabin is that it brings us back to the time when our country was first formed. And it reminds us that our own Lansing was a part of that.
Much of what we now know as Lansing was a series of military lots, land that was divided up in 1760 to pay Revolutionary War soldiers for their service. John Lansing, General Schuyler's secretary was charged with doling out these lots in 1791.

Concerning the article last week about the BSA's announcement on the number of Eagle Scouts at Lansing High School: Is it a good thing that our school boasts a large number of successful members of an organization that is admittedly homophobic and sexist?
