Clarence J. Smith, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, November 3, 2008, after a short stay at Wayne County Nursing Home. "CJ" was born August 7, 1919 in Geneva, NY, and lived most of his early life in Ithaca. He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn F. Smith. Having lived in Greene, NY for many years, he and Marilyn returned to the Ithaca area following his retirement from Verizon (NYTEL/AT&T) where he worked for 32 years. He and Marilyn spent a wonderful retirement traveling the country and splitting their time between a home in Phoenix, AZ and Aurora, NY. They had been married a wonderful 61 years when she passed on in 2006.

As a member of the "Greatest Generation", "CJ" was called upon to serve his country during WWII. During the war he served with distinction as a Noncommissioned Office in the United States Army Air Corps. He participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Central Europe and the European Air Offensive campaigns. He was the recipient of numerous citations for merit and valor including Silver and Bronze Star service medals, the Belgian Fourragere, the Presidential Unit Citation and the World War II Victory Medal. In June 2001 the State of New York awarded him the Conspicuous Service Medal and the Medal for Merit. He was Mason, a member of the Pioneers of America and of course a proud Veteran. He was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours on the course.

Doris Eva Madison passed away at her home on Sunday, October 19, 2008. She was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of the late Elma (Klein) Janes and Ira Janes, Jr. She graduated from North High School in Syracuse in June, 1938. She was married to Gordon Main Madison on February 13, 1939 in Syracuse, and they had celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary before he died on July 22, 1999. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Lois Janes and Virginia Langford.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Bob) Saturn of Tucker, Georgia, and Lynda Albanese of Lansing, New York, with whom she resided. Additional survivors include two granddaughters, Wendy (Larry) Batchelor of Roswell, Georgia, and Karen Saturn of Lilburn, Georgia; four grandsons, Lance and Mike Albanese of Fort Collins, Colorado, Chad Albanese of Charleston, South Carolina and Scott Albanese of Los Angeles, California; one great-grandson, Camden Batchelor of Roswell, Georgia; and a niece and two nephews. Doris also leaves her dog, Becky, who was her constant companion and a great source of pleasure since her husband's death.

Ruth Drew Wells joined her Mother, June Drew, in their Heavenly Father's home on October 12, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. Ruth was a former resident of Ithaca and had resided in Corpus Christi, TX for many years.

She leaves behind her husband, Glen Wells; children, Cory, Kyle, Christopher, Jessica and Amy; her father, Otis Drew of Ithaca; her siblings, David Drew of Annapolis, MD, Elisabeth Tate of Star Tannery, VA, Arthur Drew of Suwanee, GA, Steve Drew of Highlands Ranch, TX, and Janet O'Connor of Canyon Lake, TX; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen Alma Lampman Georgia, nee Schroth. age 85, of Woodsedge, Lansing, NY died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY.

Born in Rochester, NY on September 26, 1923, she was the only daughter of the late Henry and Julia Tas Schroth. Mrs. Georgia moved to Ithaca, NY in May 1951 and to Lansing, NY in 1961.

Eugene David Hauck, age 76, of 1908 Daisy Hollow Rd., Cortland, NY passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Cortland Care Center.

Born August 1, 1932 in Virgil, NY, he was a son of the late George and Caroline Hauck and husband of the late Marlene Gunn Hauck. Mr. Hauck proudly served his country in the US Army and was retired from Smith Corona in Cortland.

Laura L. Ford, age 71, of 24 Franklyn Drive, died on Friday, October 3, 2008 at Cayuga Medical Center following a brief illness.

Laura was born in Ithaca on January 17, 1937. After leaving her job as a clerk at Mack’s Pharmacy in 1981, she began her working career in earnest as nanny to four grandchildren. She found joy in traveling the country, especially it’s shores, with her beloved husband. Above all, she cherished her family dearly.

L. Neigh, of Lansing, passed away September 25, 2008 at the age of 95. Born April 21, 1913 in Phelps, NY, he was a son of the late Alfred and Samantha (Bryant) Neigh. Jim was a 1936 graduate of Ithaca High School. He owned and operated Neigh's Garage in Northfield, MA for many years before returning to the Ithaca area. He was employed at Cornell University as a Senior Electronic Technician, retiring in 1978. Since the early 1960's, he and his wife, Elizabeth, were avid ham radio operators and formed many lifelong friendships through this hobby.

Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Pallam) Neigh; a son, James (Adah) Neigh of Mt. Carmel, IL; a daughter, Jean (Robert) Perkins of West Covina, CA; two grandchildren, Nancy Sams and Jim Neigh; and two great- grandchildren. Jim is also survived by a brother, Lyle Neigh of Ithaca; and numerous nieces and nephews.
