Anne Drake and Sandi Dhimitri are running uncontested for their own Board of Education seats.  Click on a picture above to read the Lansing Star's exclusive interviews with the candidates.  Click here to read about the budget.
See below for the text of the three resolutions.

Voters will go to the polls to elect two School Board members and vote on three resolutions to approve funds for next school year.  The polls will be open Tuesday, May 16 from 12:00 Noon to9:00pm at Lansing Middle School.

Few showed up to meet the candidates Tuesday in an event sponsored by Lansing's PTSO.  But Board of Education candidates Anne Drake and Sandi Dhimitri were game to talk to those who did come, to answer questions and explain why they are running.  Both are running uncontested, Drake for her third term and Dhimitri for her second.

  • Budget Resolution#1
Resolved, that the Board of Education of Lansing Central School District be, and hereby is, authorized to expend the sums set forth of $21,553,679 and to levy the necessary tax therefore.

  • Budget Resolution#2
Resolved, that the Board of Education of Lansing Central School District is hereby authorized to borrow $245,000 to purchase three (2) 66-passenger school buses, one(1) 22-passenger bus and two (2) 6-passenger vans, at  a cost not to exceed $245,000

  • Budget Resolution #3
Resolved, that the Board of Education of Lansing Central District is herby authorized to borrow for the purchase of fitness equipment for school purposes at a cost not to exceed $130,000

Dhimitri said that much of her her first term was spent transitioning administrators in and out of the district.  "I hope and pray that we are almost done with that and can get on to the real business of moving the District forward," she said.  Dhimitri said she is running because she wants to put what she learned in her first term to use, to provide stability on the board at a time when top administrators are new to the District, and because she wants to participate in long range strategic planning, increasing student performance and enhancing technology education.

Drake said wants to focus on spending the district's dollars wisely while reining in taxes.  "I think it's important for the Board to keep the communication door open," she said, "so that we can keep the community informed, and also get feedback from them."  She said the District's Web site must be updated and said, "It's important to make sure that all students receive the very best education they can."
