Marian Edith Thaine Thompson, 89, of Lansing, New York passed away on August 24 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York from heart and lung failure.

Marian had lived most of her life in the Ithaca and Lansing areas. She was active in the North Lansing Grange serving many years as Secretary and Musician as she played the piano. While living the past 25 years at Woodsedge Senior Home in Lansing she was the LOAP bus dispatcher for several years and was honored for her service in that volunteer position. She also helped her friend Eileen Cundy and her daughter-in-law Helen Thompson make many bonnets for cancer patients. She was an avid letter writer and crossword puzzle fan. She enjoyed the many painting and ceramics classes provided for residents. She was a member of Lansing United Methodist Church where she enjoyed Bible study.

Marian was the eldest daughter of Arthur John and Anna Mae Chase Thaine and was born in Enfield, New York on August 20, 1917. She was a graduate of Ithaca High School. In May 1941 she married David Othneal Thompson who predeceased her. They farmed for many years near Genoa and later she worked for 15 years in the Cornell University Payroll Department as a Payroll Clerk. She retired early to care for her husband.

In addition to helping with the farm she was a 4-H leader and a member of the Genoa School PTA Board. The family enjoyed many camping trips. When asked how she went from being a city girl to a farmer's wife she replied that "I just did it!" She was always willing to take on tasks to help with activities at church, school and there they lived. They spent a few years in the St. Cloud, Florida area where they moved for her husband's health.

Marian is survived by her son, David (Helen) Thompson of Groton, New York, her daughter, Patricia Ann B. (Daljit) Sawhney of Annandale Virginia, her grandsons Matthew (Kelly)Thompson of Locke, New York, Aaron (Tanya) Thompson of Groton, Nathan Thompson of Locke, her granddaughter Larisa Sawhney of Burke, Virginia.
