Lansing Wrestlers Win Silver and Bronze Print

Lansing wrestlers Kyle Dake and Vernon Nabinger took silver and bronze medals in their weight division at the Empire State Games last week. The Games is a multi-sport event held annually. It is patterned after the Olympics, and is the largest competition event of its kind. The program is run by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. This summer's games were held July 27 through 31 in Hudson Valley.

Kyle Dake took second in the Scholastic Division 44KG-98lb GrecoRoman men's wrestling event on July 28 and 29th. He won all but the last match, defeating Steven Keith of Long Island, Joseph Cipriano of New York City, Mike Ahearn of the Hudson Valley region, and Matthew Rowe of the Adirondack region. In the final round he was defeated by Nicholas Wilcox by pinning, landing him the silver medal.

Vernon Nabinger, also of Lansing, won the bronze medal in Scholastic Division 59KG-132lb GrecoRoman men's wrestling , beating Erik Johanson of the Adirondak region, Emilio Torres of Hudson Valley, James Lopresti of Long Island, and Jake Blake of Adirondack. He was defeated by Jacob Bohn, also of the Central region.

The Central Division, of which Lansing is a part, won 137 medals, including 44 gold, 80 silver and 68 bronze.
