This past Saturday, all but a few members of Lansing’s Varsity and Modified Boys’ Swim Teams gathered at their coach’s house to celebrate an absolutely amazing year. The weather was beautiful! The swimmers and their families had a great time in an enjoyable, relaxed setting.

After some food and fun, attention turned to honoring both swim teams and every individual. Special recognition was given to seniors Kevin Mabry, David “Grapes” Jones, Hans Roser, Sterling Gell and Scott Sevey, some of the finest young men to ever compete for Lansing. Their personalities, presence and leadership will be missed. Coach Dewey advised the underclassmen to learn from the example these five young men have set and to come to understand the level of commitment they have shown to personal growth and, of greater import, to their teammates.

Through the leadership of this group, the team became the most successful sport team in school history: undefeated for four consecutive years, winning four consecutive I.A.C. titles, extending the sectional title streak to twelve, ranking among the best small school and C-class teams in the nation, four individuals achieving All-American status, etc., etc.

The mod squad was also recognized for extending their undefeated streak to six years. Additionally, Clement Towner, Joshua Tull, Max Rogan and Sean Streb were honored with Leadership Awards at the modified level.

It was a very nice way to cap a fantastic year with a phenomenal group of Lansing’s youngsters.
