Lansing Tops Watkins Glen in First Swim Meet Print

ImageThe Lansing Boy's Varsity Swim Team started the season with a win over Watkins Glen - 110-65.  Jake Sangren, the team's All-American swimmer, broke the Watkins Pool Record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.70.  According to Coach Brian Vaughan, "Jake is still getting in shape."  He expects the Senior Swimmer to go much faster in this event as the season continues.  "I expect this swimmer to take down Lansing's Pool Records in the 100 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley, and the 100 Breaststroke".

Lansing's new Varsity Coach was also pleased with the efforts of the entire team, especially the Freshmen.  Clement Towner came in first place in the 500 Freestyle and was part of the winning 200 Free Relay. He said all new members of the team "did very well – great efforts!"

When asked what the key areas of change is over last year's team, Coach Vaughan said that last year's team had 7 Seniors who had an incredible year.  This year's team has a lone Senior (Jake Sangren); however, the team can rely on the efforts of a very strong team of Juniors.  Dan Ravas (Junior) came out strong with 1st place finishes in the 200 FREESTYLE (2:00.76) and the 100 Freestyle (53.88).   Ari Darlow (Junior) scored a 1st place finish in the 200 IM (Individual Medley) with a time of 2:26.42, and Dave Bandler (Junior) finished 1st in the 50 Freestyle (23.86).  These Juniors were also strong finishers in the team's Relay Events.  Others contributing to the relay wins were Max MacKenzie (Junior)and Casey Hagin (Sophomore).

200-Yard Medley Relay:  Lansing (Jake Sangren, Max MacKenzie, Ari Darlow, Dave Bandler)  1:53.05

200 Freestyle:  Dan Ravas (L) 2:00.76

200 Individual Medley:  Ari Darlow (L) 2:26.42

50 Freestyle:  Dave Bandler (L) 23.86

Diving:  Corey Parish (WG) 110.10

100 Butterfly:  Jake Sangren (L) 54.74

100 Freestyle:  Dan Ravas (L) 53.88

500 Freestyle:  Clement Towner (L) 5:49.00

200 Freestyle Relay:  Lansing (Casey Hagin, Ari Darlow, Dan Ravas, Clement Towner) 1:40.22

100 Backstroke:  Jake Sangren (L) 53.70  WATKINS POOL RECORD

100 Breaststroke:  Erik Dahl (WG) 1:19.45

400 Free Relay:  Lansing (Dan Ravas, Dave Bandler, Jake Sangren, Casey Hagin) 3:42.57

Watkins Glen came out on top in Diving (Corey Parish – 110.10) and the 100 breaststroke (Erik Dahl  1:19.45).

When asked how the Relay Teams performed, Coach Vaughan said that the 200 Medley Relay team "did better than expected".  Although the 400 Free Relay team came in 1st place, the Coach said that this team "should have faster split times" and he expects them to go faster in the meet against Waverly will be our toughest and it is coming up!" ready for this particular meet.  He said, "There may not be much change in the line-up for the events because we will be out to win!"
