Mike Sigler Republicans turned out at the polls in Tuesday's primary election to choose a candidate for the District 6 County Board seat being vacated this year by Thomas Todd.  The district includes most of Lansing, except for the Village of Lansing and part of North Lansing.

Michael J. Sigler defeated Douglas T. McEver 230 to 82. Mr. Sigler will run against Democrat Hurf Sheldon in the November general election.  While the turnout for the primary was low, it was about average for a primary election.  "I'm very pleased, says Mr. Sigler.  "It was good to see the Republicans turn out for the primary.  I'm pleased that we got such a high percentage of the vote.  Now my job is to convince the Democrats and the independents."

A couple of days after the election Mr. McEver said, "I was very happy to meet a lot of people out there.  I know that Mike Sigler, in time, can be just as good.  And I hope he does work as hard as he says he's going to for the benefit of the Town of Lansing and the rest of the taxpayers of Tompkins County.  The current County Board is definitely not helping the towns."  Mr. McEver has been asked to serve on the Tompkins County Republican Executive Committee.  "I will be as active as I can be with the Republican party," he said.  As for running again in the future, he said, "Don't worry, I'll be back."

Mr. Sigler said he is willing to debate Mr. Sheldon between now and the November election.  "I'll debate any time we can set our schedules.  I look forward to it," he said.

Mr. Sigler doesn't plan to take a break before campaigning for the general election.  "We have momentum now.  A lot of people in town at least know my name, and the job is to let them know what my platform is.  Hopefully they'll agree with it."
