Vernon H. Gatewood, 82, of Lansing, NY, passed away on Sunday morning December 30, 2007, at Lakeside Nursing Home, Ithaca, NY. He is survived by his wife, Esserlene Gatewood; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Vernon Keith Gatewood, Long Island, NY, Francis Kevin and Susan Gatewood, California; three grandchildren, Kevin, Allysa, Gregory Gatewood; his sister, Alice Reynolds, Rochester, NY; several nieces and nephews. Vernon was born in Massillon, OH on July 6, 1925, the son of the late George and Hazel May Gatewood.
He retired in 1981 from the Cornell University, Physiology Department of the Veterinary School. Vernon served two terms on the Lansing School Board and also volunteered for the Lansing Lions Club.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Lansing Funeral Home, 32
Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY, on Saturday January 19, 2008, at 1:00pm, with
Rev. David Quigley, Pastor of Asbury Church officiating. Friends are
invited to call at Lansing Funeral Home on that Saturday, from 12:00
noon until the time of service at 1:00. Those wishing may consider a
memorial contribution to the Salvation Army in memory of Vernon.
