ITHACA – Eugene “Gene” Winston, age 78, of Ithaca, died Friday afternoon (September 9, 2005) at Cayuga Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Winston was born January 7, 1927 in Arkansas, a son of the late John Winston and Daisy O’Daniel Winston Jackson. His wife of 57 years, Patricia Hoover Winston, died the previous day.
He was a member of the Forest City Lodge No. 180 of the IBPOE of the World and St. James AME Zion Church. Gene will always be remembered for being a devoted fathers and a helpful person who was very handy.

Survivors include his two daughters, Gloria J. Johnson of Los Angeles, CA and Melonie Winston of Ithaca; two sons, Michael Eugene Winston and Kevin Winston, both of Ithaca; three sisters, Veola Price of Brooklyn, Louise Irvin of Ithaca and Lucille (Roland) Boyd of Los Angles, CA; one aunt, Lucille Bradford of Gary, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Herson Funeral Home. An Elks Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Funeral Services will be Saturday (September 17, 2005) at 1:00 p.m. at St. James AME Zion Church, 116 Cleveland Ave. in Ithaca. Burial will follow in South Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
