ImageHarriet Stupich was born in Milwaukee to Clara (Laszewicz) and John Dokulil in 1922. 1n 1946, after studying nursing, she met and married John Stupich. Having raised a family, she set out to become a successful entrepreneur - managing, and then owning, health food stores in Brown Deer and in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

In retirement in 1984, she and her husband moved to Adams-Friendship, Wisconsin, where Harriet was instrumental in advocating for the construction of a community center (since completed).

After John's death in 1998, Harriet moved to Ithaca, New York to be near daughters Laura and Geri and her two youngest grandchildren, Matt and Dylan. After her family, her great loves were winning at Scrabble, and (not illogically) trying always to unravel the conundrums of living a pure spiritual life in an untidy physical world.

She had ten very fine years in Ithaca before she died at home last Sunday with caregivers and family at her side, after succumbing to the trauma and exhaustion of two months of hospital care.

She is preceded in death by brothers Clarence and Bill, by husband John and son Frank. She is lovingly remembered by her children Daniel of Milwaukee, Martin (David Vaughan) of Albuquerque, Laura Light of Syracuse and Geri (Doug) Stayman of Ithaca, grandsons Dylan and Matt Stayman, Tim and David Stupich, by nephew Don and niece Lucy Dokulil, by many other relatives and friends across the country; and by Leonel, her twin in spirit.

Cremation has occurred. Harriet asked that there be no memorial service. At her request, donations in her memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders at http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/. Or you may phone 1-888-392-0392 or write to Doctors Without Borders USA, P. O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030.
