Image The Lansing Varsity Track team ran well at Saturday's Windsor NY/PA Invite considering the conditions and the fact that it was only April 5th.  Some of these kids have only been working out with the coaching staff for 3 weeks.  The weather played a huge role.  Just a miserable day for a track meet.  Cold, wet, gloomy conditions all day.

Due to the fact we ran this meet from an individual performance perspective rather than a team perspective I thought we ran great!  To run against 34 schools (of all sizes) from New York and Pennsylvania and place the girls 3rd and the boys 7th, was nice to see.

Jeff Swayze took a major step in winning the shot put.  His PR today was huge.  This was a big confidence builder for him going into the season and was also a big ten points for the team.

Ryann Cretney looked solid in her first 2000m steeplechase of the season, winning by over 20 seconds in a solo effort.  Sprinters, Chloe Ryan and Lindsay Petry had huge days on the track and in the field, scoring a majority of our points, while Carol Melice won the Pole Vault, looking in peak form and scoring 10 points for the girls.  This was a huge step for her towards a solid outdoor campaign.

Our boys 4 x 800m relay looks ready to compete with anyone across the section, placing 3rd among state level competition this early.  Only Tully HS and Corning beat us out down the stretch.  The kids were focused and know this is only a stepping stone in the lofty goals we have for June.  Henry Potter looked strong in his 800m outdoor debut, leading us off on the first leg with a 2:01, a per by 3 seconds.

Lansing Track and Field, competes next Saturday, April 12th, at the Home Invitational.  The meet is set to start at 10:00AM.
