Plantsmen Welcomed by Chamber Print
Doug Levine
Friday, 02 May 2008
The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Plantsmen Nursery on Friday, April 25th.  The Plantsmen Nursery specializes in native plants for all horticultural settings and natural habitats--from downtown and suburban ornamental gardens, to pond restoration, wetland plantings in creeks and streams, woodlands and meadows.

Daniel Segal took ownership of The Plantsmen Nursery in May of 2006.  Within two years, the nursery has almost completely re-crafted its identity, and established its niche in the nursery scene of Central NY.

One of the nursery's central values is choosing plants that work with the given site conditions.  Not only does this eliminate the need for soil amendments and extra care, which can be costly and still not work, but it is part of their core message: plants chosen to suit your garden's conditions will perform best with the least care.  Dan's background working with native plants, and other areas in horticulture, for almost 20 years allows the nursery to offer advice, and plants, with total confidence.

The Plantsmen Nursery grows trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, ferns, ground covers and vines, and most of their plants are either propagated at the nursery, or up the road at their production yard.  Plants not propagated on-site are still potted and grown on site for many months so they're well-acclimated by the time they're ready for sale.  They also offer a range of traditional and not-so-traditional plants from compatible climate zones in other parts of the world.   The Plantsmen Nursery offers exceptionally personal, customized design and installation of natural landscapes for the smallest yards to sprawling country properties.
