Letters to the EditorAre you aware that Tompkins County (one of only a few counties that) imposes a 4% sales tax on Heating Oil.

I called the State Sales Tax Help Line and found out that the State does not collect sales tax on heating oil, the County does, supposedly to help with School Taxes. First time I knew that School funding is supposedly coming from that direction. If this is so, where is the additional money accounted for in the School Bugets?

With the current inflated price of fuel oil this will amount to alot of money that we must pay for what? Where is it all going? Where has it been going?

Just one more reason people are leaving this area. We are being taxed into poverty by one means or another.
