ITHACA – Eugene T. “Mickey” Nesbitt Sr., age 83, a retired machinist with Morse Chain and a former resident of Binghamton and Danby, died Sunday evening at Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca. Mr. Nesbitt was born October 25, 1921, the son of the late Willis and Grace VanHusen Nesbitt.

He enjoyed collecting teddy bears and cups. He was an avid camper and enjoyed watching old movies, Westerns, traveling and vacationing with the family. He was a member of the Danby Federated Church and a cook in the US Army during World War II. Prior to his employment with Morse Chain, he was employed with Endicott Johnson Shoe Company as a laborer.

Survivors include his six daughters, Sylvia (David) Downing of Ticonderoga, Nancy (John) Hirst of Port Crane, Barbara Manley of Newfield, Gail Isenbarger of Brooktondale, Gloria (Robert) Carlyle of Spencer and Cathy Nesbitt of Sayreville, NJ; two sons, Eugene Nesbitt Jr. of Johnson City and Gary (Carol) Nesbitt of Enfield; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; 3 sister-in-laws and 2 brother-in-laws; several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wives, Viola May Gower Nesbitt, who died March 1975 and Audrey Manley Nesbitt, who died in March 1993 and two grandchildren, Willis and James Foster.

Friends and family may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (October 4, 2005) at the Herson Funeral Home where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (October 5, 2005). Burial will follow at Maine Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeside Nursing Home Memorial Fund.
