Mobile Food Pantry Sets Lansing Record Print Recommend This Article to a Friend

ImageThe Mobile Food Pantry truck was in Lansing Monday morning to distribute food to those in need.  The 35 foot truck served a hundred households, which Lansing Food Pantry Director Nancy Myers says is the best turnout ever.

"I believe that the most we had at one time last year was maybe sixty families," she says.  "This was huge for us."

ImageThe Mobile Food Pantry is a 35 foot beverage truck that was converted in 2007 for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to use as a food pantry.  A second truck was added in 2008.  The trucks serve more than 180 agencies over a 3,849 square mile area with the mission of bringing healthy food to people in need.  Each truck can carry up to 15,000 pounds of food.

When the truck arrived Monday Lansing volunteers set up tables to create a shop where clients could pick out food they need.  Myers says volunteers were worried that rain would keep people away, but the sun came out by opening time.

"Good food was distributed and we are grateful to have it," Myers says.
