Log Cabin Getting Close Print Recommend This Article to a Friend

ImageThe North Log Cabin reassembly is getting closer to becoming a reality with two thirds of the funds needed already donated.  Several donations ranging from just a few dollars to an anonymous donation of $3,000 have brought the total up to about $12,000, $5,500 short of the target budget.

Some of the money has been raised from events including a chicken barbecue and a breakfast, which accounted for about $2,000 of the money.  Another chicken barbecue benefiting the cabin is being held tomorrow (Saturday 7/11) in front of the Lansing Town Hall.  The first Lansing Farmer's Market is also being held there, and the hope is that the two events will draw more people for each other.

The log cabin was built on the corner of Conlon and Searles Roads in Lansing in 1791 by Thomas North.  During its lifetime it also served as a schoolhouse and a museum exhibit.  The Town of Lansing obtained the cabin in 2007, and the Lansing Community Council is now raising the money to reassemble it with the hope it will be completed before Lansing Harbor Festival on August 15th.

Community Council President Ed LaVigne says that the only thing holding up construction is the money.  The cabin will most likely be assembled in Myers Park, though the final decision on a location may be reserved until the last minute.  The Town board must agree on the location.
