ITHACA – Isabelle Engle Bangs, age 92 of Ithaca, died Thursday morning (December 15, 2005) at Cayuga Medical Center.

Mrs. Bangs was born March 31, 1913 in Salisbury, PA, a daughter of the late Irwin J. & Cora Newman Engle. She was the wife if the late Professor O. Ernest Bangs who died August 10, 1995.

Mrs. Bangs was a member of the Congregational Church in Ithaca. Prior to her retirement in 1972, she was a registered nurse at Sage Infirmary at Cornell University since 1958. She obtained her bachelors degree in Nursing from West Penn University and during World War II she worked as a nurse in a hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. She and Professor Bangs lived and worked at the Cornell branch of the School of Hotel Administration in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Survivors include her two daughters, C (Dr.Gregory Matloff) Bangs of Brooklyn and Christine (Dr. Joseph) Hall of Inverell, New South Wales, Australia; three grandchildren, Anna Hall (Jeremy) Andrews, Joshua Hall, both of Queensland, Australia and Ashur Hall of Canberra, Australia; a niece, Dorothy James of Pennsylvania and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bangs is predeceased by her brothers, John, Charles “Rip,” Fred, Paul, and Dale Engle.

Services will be private for family and friends only. Burial will be also private at Salisbury Cemetery in Salisbury, PA. If desired, memorials may be made in Isabelle Bangs name to Hospicare. Arrangements were completed by Herson Funeral Home.
