ITHACA, NY: The Kitchen Theatre Company is pleased to announce the winners of its KITCHEN SINK series event Teen Extreme Playwriting Contest. After careful review of submitted three-page original writing samples by a panel of professional playwrights, writers, actors and directors, four young playwrights have been selected to participate in an exciting four-day Playwriting Marathon. This "pressure-cooker" rehearsal to performance process will culminate in four public performances on February 26 and 27 at 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

The Contest winners are:

  • Zoe Romm - a 15 year-old 10th grader from Lehman Alternative Community School
  • Vienna Farlow - a 15 year-old 10th grader from Southern Cayuga High School
  • Nathan Hilgartner - a 14-year-old 8th grader from Boynton Middle School
  • Mary John - a 13 year-old 7th grader from Boynton Middle School

On the evening of Wednesday, February 22nd, playwrights, directors, actors and crew will, by lottery, be assigned to one of four groups and the "secret topic" will be announced. The winning playwrights will have from Wednesday to Saturday to write and only two days to rehearse their fully-staged 10-minute plays.

Tickets for the public performances on February 26 and 27 at 6:00pm and 8:00pm may now be purchased by visiting the Ticket Center in the Historic Clinton House, 116 N. Cayuga St, Ithaca, calling 607. 273-4497 or online at www.kitchentheatre.org.
