tc_leg120In a brief special session, the Tompkins County Legislature formally adopted amendments to the County Administrator's 2014 Tentative Budget and 2014-2018 Capital Program, as recommended by its Expanded Budget Committee. The vote was 14-1, with Legislator Pat Pryor voting no.

The amended budget would increase the County tax levy by 2.95% and the countywide average tax rate by 1.34%. The recommended tax rate of $6.89 per thousand is 4 cents lower than in the Administrator's budget, and an increase of 9 cents compared to 2013, representing an increase of $14.81 for the median county home, assesed at $163,000. The amended budget is $260,128 less than the Administrator's budget.

The amended package, now known as the Legislative Tentative Budget, replaces Administrator Joe Mareane's recommended budget as the basis of budget deliberations and will be sent on to public hearing. The Legislature will hold the public budget hearing on Tuesday, November 12, beginning at 7 p.m. at Legislature Chambers, located at the Governor Daniel D. Tompkins Building (Second Floor), 121 E. Court Street, Ithaca. The final budget adoption vote is scheduled for the Legislature's meeting on Tuesday, November 19.

The amended budget will be available for review online at the County website at http://tompkinscountyny.gov/ctyadmin/Budget/index, along with other information regarding the 2014 budget process.
