helmingCanandaigua - Republican candidate for 54th New York State Senate District Pam Helming blasted the SAFE Act Wednesday and called for its total repeal.  Helming pledged to lead the fight against radical anti-gun legislation currently pending in Albany.

"The SAFE Act is deeply flawed and an assault on our constitutional rights. Law-abiding gun owners across our region and state were made into criminals overnight by Governor Cuomo and the liberals that support his anti-gun agenda. As State Senator, I will work with my Upstate colleagues, sportsmen and women across the 54th District, law-abiding gun owners, and pro-gun rights advocates such as SCOPE and the NRA to protect our Second Amendment rights," said Helming.

"I know this will be a long and arduous battle, but it's a battle I am prepared to fight.  I believe that working together we can stop Governor Cuomo and the downstate liberals who aim to enact numerous anti-gun laws if the power shifts in the State Senate," continued Helming.

A number of measures currently before the legislature would fundamentally harm gun owners in New York State if the downstate Democrats took control. These misguided measures include costly and unproven microstamping legislation; outright ban of all .50 caliber or higher firearms; mandatory storage legislation which would force gun owners to lock up their firearms, rendering those firearms useless in home self-defense situations; and legislation that would require firearms owners to obtain at least $250,000 in liability insurance.

"My husband Gary and I taught our two children the lessons we learned from our parents and grandparents about responsible gun ownership.  I want to live in a state where my children can pass these lessons down to their children and enjoy unrestricted sportsmen and Second Amendment rights just as generations before them," said Helming.
