Washington, DC- Congressman Tom Reed recently met with President Trump regarding trade policies. Reed communicated the need to have fair trade policies that put American manufacturers on an even playing field. "We need to have strong negotiators at the table to make sure that American interests and American workers are the top priority when we negotiate with our worldwide trading partners," Reed said.

Reed recognizes the need to renegotiate our trade policies so that we have rules in place that are realistic and enforceable so that countries, such as China, cannot continue to break the rules.

"We have to look at the big picture beyond tariffs. This is an issue of fair and reciprocal trade that will help the American worker," Reed added.

As a member of the Ways and Means subcommittee on trade, Reed will continue to be part of the discussion and ensure this perspective is brought to the table.

"We are pleased that President Trump has decided to use all the tools at his disposal to send a clear message to foreign competitors that dumping steel products into our market will no longer be tolerated. His announcement to impose tariffs on steel imports that threaten our national security is a strong show of support for the nearly 14,000 New Yorkers whose jobs rely on the steel industry. The President's commitment to creating a level playing field for American steelworkers will ensure that our domestic steel industry will be able to supply our nation's defense and critical infrastructure needs for the long term," John Ferriola CEO, Chairman and President, Nucor Corporation.
