lightinwinterAfter nine years the Light In Winter Festival is ending.  In an email statement this week Light in Winter Board of Directors Vice-president of Outreach Kitty Gifford thanked supporters and encouraged them to participate in the year 'round Science Cabaret program.

"I look back with pride at many of our audacious productions over the years that made this small city gain national attention, and I thank everyone for helping turn what was just an idea into such a wonderful reality," said festival founder and artistic director Barbara Mink.

The Light In Winter Festival began in Ithaca in 2004.  This year the Board of Directors closed the festival because it is not viable financially.  Instead they are working to bring presenters who would have participated in the festival into the Science Cabaret program.

"The Light in Winter Festival, which produced collaborations between artists and scientists, debuted in 2004 and held its last festival in 2012, Gifford said.  "We enjoyed nine years of exciting, creative and enlightening programs that brought new visitors to the community and new insights to many of us."
