mailmanI fully agree with Lansing resident Dr. William Klepak who in a letter to the editor appearing August 29 called on all of us to take political and individual action to move away from fossil fuels.

One obvious, immediate, local opportunity for such action is to join the opposition to the West Dryden Road methane gas pipeline proposed by NYSEG to run through Dryden to Lansing.

In the same vein, every one of us should call upon our fellow citizens on our Village, Town, and County legislative bodies to pass resolutions in opposition to the West Dryden Road methane pipeline.

Energy for development in Lansing can be supplied, as Dr. Kelpak implied, by renewables rather than fossil fuels, AND renewables themselves generate more jobs for the construction, operation, and maintenance than any kind of fossil fuel energy generation. Economic development through renewables is better for all of us than any kind of development beholden to the expansion of fossil fuels.
