xcountryComing off of a big weekend of season and and personal best performances at the McDaniel-Baxter Invitational, Lansing cross country traveled to Whitney Point on Tuesday where the teams secured wins in each race they entered.

The individual title in the modified race (1.5 miles) at the Whitney Point meet went to Dryden's Mile Couch in a time of 10:23.0 with Lansing's Caden Michalec in pursuit, securing second place and the first team scoring position.   John Copp of Whitney Point placed third overall and second in the team scoring followed by Sam Bell of Lansing.  Rounding out the scoring positions for Lansing were Charlie Miller, Max Wakshlag, and Arjun Kodali, with a final score for Lansing of 22 over Whitney Point's 33 (low score wins).  Emme Hall of Tioga led her team, winning the girls modified race in a time of 11:36.2.

The varsity boys and girls toed the line together, with Tioga's Ezra Steele taking the overall 5K win in a time of 19:22.7.  For the first time this season, Lansing brought a full varsity boys team, and the Bobcats took on the Dryden Lions in team scoring.  Bobby Brotherton of Dryden ran to third overall and first in team scoring followed by Bobcats Liam Hulsebosch, Sean Ross, and Torsten Gartenberg in second, third, and fourth team scoring positions.  Jack Thomas and David Pollack completed Lansing's scoring roster which edged out Dryden, 27-30.  The Lansing varsity girls team executed a nearly perfect team score over Dryden, placing 1-2-3-4-6 with Mikaela Garcia taking the overall win in a time of 22:26.5 followed by her teammates Teresa Garcia, Sam Mauser, Alllison Keefe and Olivia Longhouse.

Tuesday was a strong follow-up to a big weekend for the varsity runners.  Last Saturday, the varsity teams traveled to Chenango Valley State Park for the McDaniel-Baxter Invitational which hosted over 2,600 runners.  This year, Section IV will host the NYSPHSAA Championships on this course, and some of the best runners not only in the state but also in the nation showed up to preview the venue.  With 12 races going off throughout the day and over 200 runners per race, and weather that finally cooled to yield prime running conditions, it was a perfect day for fast times -- and the athletes did not disappoint.

Lansing competed in girls race #6 which was paced by the two fastest female runners of the day, with senior Jessica Lawson of Corning winning in a new course record time of 17:26.40.  Freshman Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland took second overall in a time of 17:45.9, and both girls earned top rankings in the nation with those times.  Lansing's Mikaela Garcia, who represented the team at States last year, broke into the top twenty in the hotly contested race, finishing 16th in a new personal best time.  The Ladycats placed 7th of 16 teams in their race with all seven runners finishing in the top 100 and achieving important short-term season goals as individuals and as a team.  On the boys side, Corning's Kevin Moshier set a new course record en route to his overall win with a time of 15:41.6.  Lansing boys competed in boys race #5 which was won by Sauquoit Valley's Dylan Canarelli.  While only three Bobcats were racing, each of them achieved a personal record time.

The teams next travel to Rochester for the McQuaid Invitational and then will host their only home meet of the season on their new course at the Lansing Center Trail on October 5 at 5pm.  They will take the following weekend off from racing and instead will host our area's youngest runners at the Lansing Youth XC Race, also at the Lansing Center Trail, on October 8 at 9am.
