swim120Lansing LadyCats Swimming and Diving improved their Dual Meet record to 11-0 with victories over Watkins Glen on Thursday 10/16 and Dryden on Tuesday 10/21.  That brought Swimming Coach Diane Hicks Hugh's total career wins to 355.

Lansing (107)vs Watkins Glen (73) Thursday 10/16 at Home

Lansing was lead by standout swimming performances from Seniors Adele Ferris(Captain) & Aurora “Rory” Allen; and Sophomore Grace Ferris. All of whom won 2 individual events and participated on 2 winning Relays. Scoring Results for Lansing were as follows:

200 Medley Relay
1st Place:  Backstroke/Paige Kieper(Jr), Breaststroke/Grace Ferris, Butterfly/Adele Ferris & Freestyle/Aurora Allen with a time of 2:01.02 beating Watkins Glen’s team of Peighton Cervoni, Katherine Meehan, Victoria Wixson & Emma Allington who swam a 2:06.92.

Also scoring in 3rd place for Lansing was the Team of Tori Swanson(Jr), Carlyn Matheny(Sr, Capt), Marin Allen(Fr) & Meghan Matheny(Fr)

200 Freestyle
1st Place: Jacqueline Brown(Fr) – 2:21.21, beating Liza Carnes of WG. 

Laura Ferris(8th) finished 4th

200 Individual Medley 
1st Place: Adele Ferris – 2:16.28; with Kieper and M. Allen scoring in 3rd and 5th places respectively.

50 Freestyle:
1st Place Rory Allen – 26.32 holding off a tough challenge from WG’s Emma Allington who went a 26.63. Meghan Matheny also scored for the LadyCats with a 5th place finish.

Diving
Freshman diver Meghan Matheny scored 183.10 for 6 Dives and finished a close 2nd to Alexi Castellaneta (194.00)of Watkins Glen. 

100 Butterfly
1st Place: Rory Allen – 1:07.06; with Brown and Swanson scoring 4th and 5th place finishes as well.

100 Freestyle
Adele Ferris capped the second of her 2 individual victories on the night with a 1st place time of 56.27. She was followed closely by team mate Caroline Dennis(Fr) who was able to 2nd place. Senior Hayley Wigsten also scored with a 5th place finish.

500 Freestyle
Grace Ferris comfortably took 1st in the event with a winning time of 5:44.35. She was followed in 2nd place by fellow Ladycat swimmer Lizzy Drake(Jr). Also, scoring for Lansing in 5th place was sophomore Lexi Ryan.

200 Freestyle Relay
1st Place for Lansing was garnered by the team of Rory Allen, Caroline Dennis, Lizzy Drake & Adele Ferris; combining for a winning time of 1:52.09 and holding of the Watkins Glen team of Wixson, Meehan, Allington and Sara Gardner who challenged with a 2nd place time of 1:54.20. 

3rd place points were captured for Lansing by the team of M. Matheny, Wigsten, Krist Taylor(So) & Brown.

100 Backstroke
In what would prove to be one of the most exiting races of the evening, Junior Paige Kieper would thrill the home crowd with an upset winning time of 1:05.63; out touching a tough Victoria Wixson of WG who swam a 1:05.66!

M. Allen (3rd place) and Swanson (4th place) also put points on the board for the Ladycats.

100 Breaststroke
Grace Ferris was able to hold off a tough challenge from Watkin’s Katherine Meehan; out touching her 1:14.46 to 1:14.47. Wigsten and C. Matheny scored in 4th and 5th places as well. 

400 Freestyle Relay
The team of Lizzy Drake, Paige Kieper, Haley Wigsten & Grace Ferris capped off the sweep of swimming events with a winning time of 4:23.11. 3rd place in the relay was captured for the Ladycats by the team of Taylor, Brown, M. Allen and Swanson.

Lansing (103) vs Dryden (77) Tuesday 10/21 at Home
The Dryden Lady Lions Swimmers brought their A game to challenge rival Lansing on Tuesday. Coach Diane Hicks-Hughes had her line up ready and Senior Captains Adele Ferris & Carlyn Matheny made sure the LadyCat Swimmers were focused on their swims. Ferris along with fellow teammates Rory Allen(SR), Paige Keiper (JR), Grace Ferris (SO) and diver Meghan Matheny (FR) contributed individual & relay victories to the cause.  Additional winning relay swimmer standouts were Haley Wigsten (SR), Elizabeth “Lizzy” Drake (JR) and Caroline Dennis (FR).

Overall scoring results for Lansing were as follows

200 Medley Relay
1st Place:  Backstroke/Rory Allen, Breaststroke/Grace Ferris, Butterfly/Adele Ferris & Freestyle/Caroline Dennis with a time of 2:01.87 beating Dryden’s team of Erin Daley (SR), Taylor Cain (SR), Jainyn Wood (SR) and Marita Miller (FR),  who swam a 2:04.68. 

Also scoring in 3rd place for Lansing was the Team of Marin Allen(FR), Carlyn Matheny, Tori Swanson (JR) & Haley Wigsten.

200 Freestyle
Lady Cats swimmers swept the top three positions with Grace Ferris taking 1st with a winning time of 2:11.53. She was followed by Lizzy Drake in 2nd and Jackie Brown (FR) in 3rd

200 Individual Medley 
Adele Ferris captured the top spot with a time of 2:19.64 beating Dryden’s Wood who placed 2nd. Ladycats  Kieper and M. Allen scoring in 3rd and 4th.

50 Freestyle:
Rory Allen was the top Ladycat with a time of 26.62, finishing 2nd to a speedy Erin Daley from Dryden who just out touched her with a time of 26.28. Meghan Matheny added a 5th place finish for the Ladycats.

Diving
Diver Meghan Matheny scored 188.10 for 6 Dives beating Dryden diver Sydney Bishop (FR). 

100 Butterfly
Adele Ferris and Jainyn Wood squared off again in this event, with Ferris again coming out on top with a winning time of 1:02.07 to Wood’s 1:07.12. Brown & Swanson added more points with 4th and 5th positions for Lansing.

100 Freestyle
Dryden’s Erin Daley was able to fend off Lansing’s Caroline Dennis in this event, with a winning time of 57.39 to 58.17. Senior Hayley Wigsten also scored with a 5th place finish.

500 Freestyle
Dryden Freshman Marita Miller provided a 1st place effort for her team with a winning time of 5:52.06.  Lizzy Drake finished in 2nd for Lansing with a time of 6:14.56 scoring with fellow swimmers Kieper in 3rd and Sophomore Alexis “Lexi” Ryan in 5th.

200 Freestyle Relay
This was the 1st of 2 very exciting relays on the night. 1st Place for Lansing in this event came off the strong efforts of Grace Ferris, Wigsten, Drake & Kieper with a time of 1.54.00. They were able to fend off 1:54.33 performance from Dryden’s team of Taylor Cain, Allison Morrow (FR), Miranda Seymour (SR) and Cassie Miller(SR). 

3rd place points were garnered for Lansing by the team of Jackie Brown, Alyssa Sanito (SR), Krista Taylor (SO), and Meghan Matheny.

100 Backstroke
Rory Allen had little trouble winning this event for with a time of 1:04.90. Sister Marin finish 3rd and Tori Swanson finished 4th for Lansing.

100 Breaststroke
Grace Ferris added her second individual victory of the night with a 1:14.03 winning time over Taylor Cain of Dryden. Carlyn Matheny scored in 5th  for the Ladycats.

400 Freestyle Relay
The 400 Free relay proved to be the 2nd exciting relay of the night and a great way to finish off a well competed dual meet. The team of Paige Kieper, Lizzy Drake, Rory Allen & Adele Ferris battled for a 1st place win for Lansing with a winning time of 4:02.22.  They were challenged hard by Dryden’s team of Jainyn Wood, Cassie Miller, Marita Miller and Erin Daley who pressed them with a time 4:02.99.

The Lady Cats final home Dual meet will be Tuesday October 28th @ 4:30pm vs. Whitney Point. This will also be SENIOR NIGHT, so hope to see you there to say good luck to Seniors Adele Ferris, Carlyn Matheny, Rory Allen, Haley Wigsten and Alyssa Sanito. These girls have put in tremendous effort and shown great leadership for the Lansing Swimming Program. Come see them off!
