hockeytopgun2013_120The Tompkins Girls Hockey Association 12-and-under team went undefeated in 5 games at the Top Gun Tournament hosted by the Amherst Youth Hockey Association on January 18th through the 21st.

Ithaca's first game was Friday night against Cazenovia Girls (a Buffalo area team) which ended in a 2-2 tie.

Saturday the 12U team played and won 2 more games, first against the Tonawanda Lightning, winning 4-1. Game 3 was against the Amherst Knights winning 3-2.

The Semifinal game on Sunday was a rematch against Amherst ending in a scoreless tie in regulation, going into a shootout format (3 girls from each team went 1-on-1 with each goalie). It was an exciting shootout match with both goalies making tough saves. The game was won by Ithaca's right wing Cameron Lemberg whose game-winning goal propelled Ithaca into the Final game.

The Final game on Monday brought another match-up between Ithaca and Tonawanda. This was another closely-played game which ended in regulation in a 1-1 tie. With 4 seconds left in overtime, left wing Nora Cowett scored the game- winning goal and the team received 1st place overall as winners of the tournament. Also of note in the Final game, Goalie Catie Eisenhut earned a shut-out win.

Other goal scorers in the tournament were Molly MacQueen, Sisi Stallman, Blute Moo Soe Paw, Dori Shipman, Hannah Lacko, Jasmine Hallock and Jenna Reynolds. Most of those with goals also had assists and Nicole Nixon also recorded an assist.

The 12U team was coached in the tournament by Eric Eisenhut and CJ DelVecchio. Team Manager is Christine Stallman.
