ImageThe Sciencenter will officially open its newest exhibit―a real 4.5-billion-year-old touchable meteorite―on Monday, August 17, at 12 noon. The celebration will take place at the Sun station on the Ithaca Commons.

The 40-kg meteorite―one of the oldest objects on Earth― is touchable.  Attendees will  celebrate the Asteroid station opening with free freeze-dried Astronaut Ice Cream, Milky Way® chocolate bars, and Tang® (while supplies last). The event is free and open to everyone.

The event will include short remarks by Charlie Trautmann, Sciencenter executive director, who conceived the idea for a scale model of the Solar System in 1995.

The new 2009 Passport to the Solar System guidebook will be available for purchase ($4) during the dedication ceremony. Upon completion of the 1.2 km Sagan Planet Walk, a fully stamped passport can be presented at the Sciencenter to receive one free museum admission.
