ImageThe Kitchen Theatre Company will premiere Objects In The Mirror …are closer than they seem) written and performed by acclaimed actress Lee Chamberlin. She will be at the Kitchen for five performances on the Kitchen Counter Culture guest artist series, February 10 through 14.

"Some stories stick in your head and won’t go away,” says Lee Chamberlin. By pulling together news clippings, personal experiences and imagined situations, writer/performer Chamberlin has created a new play about families, forgiveness and the human imperative to honor the deceased.

Well remembered for her role as Brenda in the original cast of PBS television show The Electric Company, Chamberlin joined then-unknowns Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Mel Brooks, Rita Moreno, and Gene Wilder (to name just a few) and began her long-standing television career. Chamberlin later spent 12 years as a returning character on All My Children and has appeared in many other television shows and movies.

But before television and film for Chamberlin was the theater, which she ardently calls her first love.   “The reciprocity between the actor and the live audience, the immediacy of contact with them creates a living organism that breathes and pulses and makes one feel very alive.”   Her sentiments are right in line with the KTC’s ‘bold, intimate, engaging’ mantra.

Lee Chamberlin plays seven characters in this insightful look at families searching for meaningful ways to pay respect when a loved one dies. Her characters range from black and white family members meeting for the first time at a family reunion to a mother searching for her children in war-torn Sierra Leone, with a central character who is a daughter on a mission to rebury her mother according to her wishes. Chamberlin brings all these characters to life with great insight and spirit.

Following each of the five performances of Objects In The Mirror will be a ‘talk-back’ with Chamberlin, where the audiences can give their responses, ask questions, and learn more about Chamberlin’s poignant and evocative play.

Objects In The Mirror is directed by Daphne Richards. The lighting designer is Max Doolittle.
