aziza052012_120Aziza BensonLansing voters approved a $26 million budget for the 2012- 2013 school year Tuesday 808 to 370.  The budget represents a growth of 2.69% over this year's budget, and 2% growth in the tax levy.  The projected tax rate rise is 4.5%, 3% of which school officials say is attributable to the reduction in revenue from the AES Cayuga Power Plant PILOT agreement.

Julie Boles and Aziza Benson won two open seats on the Lansing Board of Education.  Boles received 631 votes.  Benson had 549. Anne Drake received 522, Michelle Uhl-Stark 429, and Max Rogan 118.

A resolution to purchase two 70-passenger school busses and one 29-passenger bus passed 788 to 344.

Another resolution determining which students are eligible for bus transportation based on how far they live from the schools passed 859 to 301.  According to school officials the proposition allows them to bus students K-8 who live less than 2 miles from the schools, and 9-12 who live within 3 miles.

A fourth proposition to establish a capital reserve fund also passed 793 to 362.  The proposition did not ask voters for additional funding.  The reserve will be funded with excess revenues or when the district underspends its budget.
