mailmanDear Editor,

It is encouraging that Supervisor LaVigne has agreed to hold more public information meetings to explain the proposed Comprehensive Plan and other issues to the citizens of Lansing.

However, let’s set the record straight: the idea of holding more information meetings and to have them in different town locations first was proposed by new Board member Joe Wetmore in the fall. Prior to his election Mr. Wetmore suggested having such meetings not just regarding the Comprehensive Plan, but about Town issues in general, as a way to hear from more of the people of Lansing. Mr. Wetmore made these suggestions in his campaign literature and in speaking with voters, and in interviews with The Lansing Star (issue on November 3, 2017) and with The Lansing Ledger (issue on October 31).

Mr. Wetmore called for more openness and transparency at the local government level, and specifically to hold dialogs about the comprehensive plan. His new colleagues on the Board, Ms. Benson and Ms. Binkewicz,, fully support the idea and said so at the Town Board meeting held December 20.
