posticon Lcat Swim Club Starts Season Well

The Lansing Community Aquatics Team (LCAT) has competed in several meets since beginning season competition on October 28th. On that date, the CATS traveled to Mexico, NY to swim in the Mexico Sprint Meet. The CATS won the meet and came away with several individual high point awards in the process. The Mexico meet was followed by the team’s first league meet in mid-November. Lansing played host to Southern Tier Swim League meet #1. The CATS had an incredible team performance throughout, with the younger and older swimmers destroying personal best times in record fashion.

This trend continued, meet to meet, as the team swam in the Silver IMX meet in Binghamton, the STAR Short Course Invitational in Buffalo, STSL #2 and in the STSL Distance Meet. Over the season’s course to date, swimmers have broken and over 60 club short course records. Kevin Miller, Francis Schickel, Ryan McElfresh, Jedidiah Dewey, Erin McElfresh, Ryan Nicholson, Bryce Stanhope, Thomas Towner, Ronan Corgel, Faadhil Moheed, Emma Otto-Moudry, Emily O’Brien, Conor Stanhope, Claire Toal, Erin O’Brien, Sadie Smith, Amanda Burke, Matt Heise, Kevin Nicholson, Joe Buffone, Graham Graffin, John Nord, Nikki Dean, Nicole Heise, Sterling Gell, Jake Sangren, Aaron Mychack, and Hans Roser all played roles in record setting performances.

posticon Winning Season For Boys Swim Team

Following up on their #1 New York State Class C ranking after the 2005-2006 season, the boys’ varsity swim team has begun the 2006-2007 season extremely well, breaking multiple school and pool records during wins over I.A.C. rivals Dryden, Watkins Glen, Southern Springs and Odessa Montour. The team has been led by its phenomenal group of upperclassmen and bolstered by the talented depth of its younger crew.

The meet was a his/her invitational where they add the guys and girls team scores to get a winner for the meet. We won the small school division with an overall combined score of 199.5 pts with Tully second with 119.5pts.

posticon Girls Basketball Even the Score

The Lansing Girls Basketball team lost their first game of the season, 49-34 at Waverly.  It was a game that saw the Ladycats come back from a 12 point half time deficit, cutting the lead to 3 after three quarters of play.  However, they were unable to sustain that momentum, and ended up getting outscored 21-9 in the fourth quarter.  Randi Lyn Randall led the way for the Ladycats finishing with 16 points, while Kendal Dean and Megan Palladino both added 9 points.

On Tuesday in Moravia the Ladycats bounced back with a 54-30 win over the Blue Devils.  Randi Lyn Randall topped the scoring column with 17 points, while freshman MC Barrett came off the bench to add 9 points, Kaycee Nedrow had 8 points, Megan Palladino 7 points, Katie Fenner and Kendal Dean added 6 points to lead the balanced scoring.

Here are the highlights from the last age group meet at Cortland State on 12/8/06.  Overall, the team did very well for their first meet. We don't have the larger numbers that we have in the past, but we have a lot of underclassmen that possess the ability to rise up as great athletes in the future.

We had 3 first place finishes:
Sr. Andy Lockwood in the shot put with a new school record of 52' 10"
Jr. Carol Melice in the pole vault with a height of 9' 6".
Soph. Jeff Swayze in the shot put with a toss of 41' 1".

posticon Varsity Boys and Girls Sweep Bowling

Cornell: Both Lansing Girls & Boys teams sweep Elmira Notre Dame @ home taking all four points each. This was the first time that both teams have taken all four points on the same night. The Lansing Girls were led by Kristi Sullivan 234/550 followed by Rachel Strohman with a 437 series and great support from the rest of the team.

The Lansing Boys were led by Dan Baldini 211/593 followed by Kyle Christopher 253/581 and great support from all the rest of the team.

posticon Lansing Bowlers Rolling the Pins

Over the weekend the IAC came together to participate in one of four Big House Tournaments this one at Rossi Lanes in Elmira Hgts. On the boy's side of competition it was a nail bitter with three schools within eight pins. Lansing's boys were first with a 3042, followed by Waverly 3039, TAE 3034 and the rest of the league in under 2870.

On the Girl's side Waverly 2321 took the honors followed by TAE 2154, Groton 2024 and Lansing's 1984. The rest of the league was 100 pins below Lansing's score. All teams are in action this Tuesday as Waverly comes to Lansing in an early season match up of division leaders.

posticon Girls Basketball Starts Season 2-0

The Lansing Girls Basketball team has gotten off to a 2-0 start following their 43-20 victory at Dryden on Saturday December 2nd, and their 51-30 home opener against Trumansburg on Tuesday.  In the Dryden game the Ladycats were led by Randi Lyn Randall who finished the night with 16 points, while Rachael Palladino chipped in with 8 points 9 rebounds and 6 assists, and sister Megan Palladino added 6 points and 8 steals. Kendal Dean also had 6 points and a team high 10 rebounds.

In the Trumansburg game the Ladycats were led again by Randi Lyn Randall who finished the night with 16 points, 7 steals and 4 assists, while Kaycee Nedrow added 9 points, and freshman MC Barrett came off the bench to add 8 points and a team high 8 rebounds.  The Ladycats travel to Waverly on Friday for an early season test against one of the top teams in the IAC. A special thanks to everyone who has come out to support the team, it is very much appreciated.

posticon Lansing State Champs Honored

Lansing Schools Athletic Director Ed Redmond brought student athletes from the Fall season to the Board of Education (BOE) meeting last week.  The students had made it to the State finals.

Frank Massi ranked 98 out of 132 in the Cross Country race across all divisions, finishing in 18.53.6.  "Frank ran and improved every day this year, and I think coach Hill would concur that Frank exceeded his expectations," Redmond said.  "At the end we can say Frank was a competitor at the State level."

posticon Varsity Bowling Starts With Wins

The Lansing boys started off the season defending there IAC Large school Championship from last year by defeating Watkins Glen and taking all 4 points in the match. Lansing’s Kyle Christopher 233/651 led all bowlers with Lansing’s Dan Baldini 257/637 close behind. The rest of the team of Jon LaRock, Ricky Newton and Phil Kulis provided a well balanced attack as the Bobcats totaled 2960 pins to Watkins 2513.

The Lansing Girls started out the season winning one game by 5 pins losing one game by 6 and then total wood by 15 pins. Lansing’s Rachel Strolman lead the Bobcats 165/464 along with Kristi Sullivan 172/456. The whole league comes together this weekend for a Big House match at Rossi Lanes in Elmira Hgts.

posticon Girls Volleyball Takes Regional Title

The Lady Cats brought home the Regional title Saturday Night. They found themselves up against a strong Millsbrook team that was returning for the second year. It took the girls about 10 minutes to shake the nerves and begin playing their game. Three games later they were collecting the Regional Championship trophy and planning their trip this week to Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York to play in the Class C final four State Championships.

posticon Vollyball Lady Cats Go To State

The Lansing girls’ volleyball team has given fans in the stands much to cheer about this year. The season started with a win against Dryden, but was immediately followed by a close loss to cross-lake rival Trumansburg (T-burg). The girls successfully regrouped to follow the loss with an 11-1 conclusion to their season.
