Lansing To Add Baseball Dugouts

The game is tied.  The home team coach sends his star player out of the dugout.  Except there is no dugout.  That is about to change, because plans are afoot to build six dugouts on Lansing baseball fields.  At the same time about ten acres of land across the street from the existing ball fields is being leveled and seeded

"We don't know how many fields will fit yet until we clear the area," says Lansing Recreation Supervisor Patrick Tyrrell.  "We're hoping for a least three soccer fields.  That will give us room to put in a tournament baseball field on this (the existing ball fields) side.  The Parks & Rec Dept continues to grow and is in need of more open space as we continue to take our facilities to the next level.   The dugouts is step one in this process."

The Lansing 10U baseball team won a couple of nail-biter, 1-run games to take first place in a Schuyler County tournament on Saturday July 29 at Watkins Glen.

In the first game, Lansing faced a Cortland Crown City team with Jordan Sidle starting on the mound for the Bobcats. Sidle masterfully worked 4 innings in the start and pitched all the way up to his maximum-allowable pitch count, yielding only 2 runs while tallying 8 strikeouts. But the Bobcat bats were slow to wake up until the bottom of the 4th inning, when Avery Wells and Jordan Sidle singled to put baserunners on, and then William Stallone and Henrik Axelson singled to drive in runs and tie the game at 2-2 heading into the 5th inning.

Fall Rec Programs

It seems as if summer has only just begun.  But the Lansing Recreation Department wants parents to start thinking ahead to the fall.  Late summer and fall programs include Small Fry Football, Small Fry Cheerleading, Flag Football, Soccer, Pee Wee Cheer Camp, and Summer Sparten Gym Camp.

"Like everyone, their thoughts are on the current time, which is summer time," says Town Recreation Director Steve Colt. "But we need to get the word out that it is time to sign up for Small Fry Football, and the youth cheerleading program, and our youth soccer program that we run in the fall... and flag football.  And this year we're offering a cheerleading camp."
