Valesente Diamond at Freeman field has been quiet for a few weeks now with the Bombers outstanding season coming to a close. The top two Quad County teams changed that when they came together, on the last day in July, for the battle of the big cats in the Quad County, Babe Ruth 2013 Championship game. Lansing grappled a hard fought 6 – 1 win from the paws of the Dryden team. Discipline, confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship and heart were the tools of the Lansing team to become the League and Playoff Champions. A much disciplined defense and seven innings of confident pitching held the hard hitting Dryden team to only one unearned run. The Bobcats made several great plays but they had two key defensive plays, both from rookie players, which kept the Lions from gaining any momentum. In the top of the third inning, one out and a runner on second base, starting Second Baseman, Matt Gonyea snagged a hard hit line drive and touched second base before the runner could tag up, to complete an unassisted, inning ending, double play.

The middle of July is often best known for its hot days, the scent of chicken barbecue, and the sound of children enjoying their escape from school. In Lansing, this is also the time when baseball fills the air. The sound of a ball hitting the catcher’s glove or the sound of the umpire shouting safe as the runner successfully makes it home before the throw. The sound the bat hitting the ball and the chance to cheer on your team is what brought hundreds of people to the Lansing Town Fields during this past weekend for the Lansing 10U Baseball Festival.

The Lansing Bobcats gained a new team member Monday -- an actual bobcat. Carl Nedrow presented the stuffed cat, which will be displayed prominently in Lansing High School's trophy case, to the Lansing Board Of Education Monday. The bobcat is a gift of Nedrow and his nephew Patrick Tierney, both Lansing athletes and graduates.
The JV baseball team finished with a regular season record of 16 – 0. Continuing to play with poise, confidence and discipline the team defeated the Eagles, Blue Devils and the Blue Raiders in the last matchups of this season. They started the week with an assertive, 24 – 3, win over Whitney Point. The boys then traveled to Moravia where they took the lead and never let it go. For their final regular season game the Bobcats battled their rival across the lake, defeating them 15 – 8. They earned the title of IAC Large School North Champions and the right to compete in the IAC Large School championship game against the Waverly Wolverines.
TC3 softball player Taylor Policay (Lansing H.S./Lansing) has been recognized for her outstanding play. The freshman was named the NJCAA Region III co-Athlete of the Week. She shares honor with Mary Lenhart, a track and field athlete from Herkimer County Community College. Region III consists of 26 schools with four sports for women in the spring.
The JV baseball team has continued to improve in every aspect of the game. They started the week with a confident, 12 – 0, shut out of Thomas Edison (TAE). Then they dropped in on the Groton Indians and took a 13 -2 win. The boys ended their week with a double header against the then undefeated Union Springs Wolves. These games were the closest that the Cats have had so far this season. Game one, 7 – 1, game two, 6 – 0.
The Lansing Tennis Bobcats continued their winning ways over the last few weeks with 5 additional victories over conference foes and a resounding triumph over Syracuse powerhouse Baldwinsville. This brought the Bobcats record up to 8-0 on the season as the team attempts to go through league play undefeated for the third straight year and claim it's fourth consecutive league crown. The Bobcats are back in action on Friday May 3rd at Auburn and wind up in-conference regular season play on Monday May 6th at Trumansburg.
Get out the dust pans. The Bobcats JV Baseball team swept the Purple Lions of Dryden in a two game battle of the big cats. With solid pitching and respectable hitting, the Dryden team came over the hill to give Lansing one of the closest games yet this season. The Lions held their heads high with the 14 – 6 loss and hoped to have their revenge the following day when they would host Lansing at their house. The Bobcats denied them with a 14 – 3 win, putting the Bobcat's record at 9 – 0 for the season.
The number seven is considered lucky but, it wasn’t luck that put the Lansing Junior Varsity Baseball team’s record to seven and zero. The team has been working hard, developing not only their skills but their discipline at the plate, sportsmanship and confidence in themselves and in their teammates. The Moravia Blue Devils were almost blanked in their 20 – 1 loss against Lansing. The Groton Indians didn’t fare much better when they hit the buzz saw of strikes from The Brandon and Brandon Show resulting in a 13 – 1 defeat. Last Friday the Blue Raiders were caught between two storm fronts. One was being carried by the wind from the west and the other was delivered by a bus from across the lake. For their fourth game last week, the Bobcats shut the Blue Raiders out with a five inning, one hit, 7 – 0, victory.
