sff_eastmanextrapointkickOn a cold and damp fall afternoon, the Lansing Small Fry Senior team celebrated a 34-0 victory against the South Seneca Falcons.  The Sunday, October 2nd matchup marked the Bobcat’s first shutout game of the 2011 season.

Quarterback Eric Eastman accounted for 4 touchdowns, including a quarterback keeper.  He threw 2 in the air and hit Jesse Richardson for 75-yards and Zack Walker for 45-yards.  The Bobcats ground attack was led by touchdown rushes from Colin McClure and Joe Miller-Labar and successful runs by Jerry Howser, Michael Lapar, and Lansing Miller.  The offensive line Jonathan Duncan, Braydon Jackson, Lapar, Kyle Nickerson, Colter Pinney and Walker, was impenetrable allowing Eastman ample time to make passes and providing key blocks for the backs to effectively run the ball.

soccer0905_barbersocoNo one is happier that junior defender Spencer Warkentin has returned from his recent knee injury healthy and able than sophomore midfielder Benji Geisler and junior striker Ethan Kutler. Warkentin's return and effective play as the center back has allowed Geisler to move back into his central midfielder role and Kutler into his attacking striker position, allowing them reassert their roles in the Bobcats' offensive attack. And respond they have, as Geisler led the Bobcats to their most recent impressive win by notching 4 goals in a 7-0 victory of the Southern Cayuga Chiefs in Poplar Ridge on Wednesday afternoon.

footballv0905_5_120The stage was full of Lansing Bobcats as many of their "Young Guns" stepped up to fill the positions of the several injured starters.  Although the jersey was sidelined due to an injury, the #5 could be seen on the helmets and wrists of many of the Lansing players. Mario Rosetti's drive and attitude were seen in many of the Bobcats as they took the field and the 24 - 14 win over the Whitney Point Golden Eagles.

Ryan Todd was a runaway truck this past Friday as he leaned forward and drove into, over and through anyone in his way.  Todd rushed for 197 yards and three TD’s on 33 carries.  On defense he had four solo tackles and an interception that grounded the Golden Eagles.  While Todd was the main tank for the Cats, he was not the only weapon in Coach John Winslow’s arsenal.  The Bobcats coaches used six running backs and three receivers to outgain the Golden Eagles by 11 first downs and over 120 total yards.

soccer20110930 Adog celebratesIn their first matchup of the season, the Bobcats boys’ soccer team thoroughly dominated a younger, less experienced Groton team en route to a resounding 7-0 victory, bombarding the Groton goal with shot after shot, and moving the ball around with ease. In their rematch on Wednesday night at Lansing’s Sobus Field, the Groton footballers were determined to make a better showing against their close neighbors, and in doing so demonstrated significant improvement since the first contest. For his part, senior keeper Brandon Pollack did his best to keep his Groton mates in the game for the first 40 minutes, making 7 outstanding saves in the half against New York State’s 5th ranked team in Class C, the Bobcats of Lansing High School.

xc1 120The Lansing Varsity Boys/Girls Cross Country teams had a very successful start to the season last week. It will be an interesting year this year as we have a young team that is hard working and has already posted some good times for the year. The year started out with the team traveling to Thomas Edison for an IAC divisional meet against SVE, Newark Valley, Groton, Thomas Edison, and Moravia. It was a balmy day for a cross country meet but the teams were up to the challenge on a tough 2.9 mile course.

The girl’s team started things out on the course and were led by seniors Shanna Swanson and Blair Wigsten who finished 5th and 6th overall. Then they were followed by a close group of runners, Lauren Phlegar, Anna Kirkwood, Rachel Brock, and Olivia Longhouse who finished (16, 17, 19, 22nd) overall.

Junior striker and Tri-Captain Ethan Kutler continued his scoring ways by quickly putting two behind the Groton netkeeper within the first 15 minutes of the game to get the Bobcats rolling. Later in the first half, Kutler played a nice through ball to an onrushing Geisler who slotted the ball into the far side netting for a 3-0 advantage.
