baseballmod0526_120The Ark that was built was not needed after all.  The rains have cleared, for the most part, and the Lansing Modified team has been able to get three more games in.  The Modified league has had to squeeze several games in over the last few weeks due to the rain.  This has caused the Bobcats to play four games in seven days and has put a strain on the pitching of their team.  A little tired, a little humbled but still having fun they made it through in great shape, changing their record at 4 and 1.

baseball_varsity1_120The Lansing baseball team defeated Waverly Wednesday 7-0, behind the one hit pitching of Senior Harrison Herzog. Lansing scored a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit as Ellington Hopkins walked, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly and scored on a Harrison Herzog ground out.

Waverly got their only hit of the game in the bottom half of the first inning on an infield hit by Tyler Bauman, a slow chopper to third base that Bauman just beat out. From that point forward it was the pitching of Herzog and solid defense, highlighted by the play of shortstop Sean Streb, that kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard.

posticon Modified Baseball Starts Season With Two Commanding Wins

baseball1The cold, the rain, and the flooded fields kept most modified baseball teams from starting the season on time but nothing could keep these boys from starting the season off in true Lansing form with two away wins. The team jelled together for an 11 - 5 win over Trumansburg, and then blanked Southern Cayuga 9 - 0. The senior boys are stepping up as leaders and setting the standards, while the younger players are being encouraged, challenged, and guided into their positions. Coach Cheatham is doing a great job at finding positions and playing time for all twenty on the roster, and at the same time ensuring they all have the opportunity to be successful.

posticon Baseball/Softball Events For Young Players Start Early

baseballclinic_120Spring break is upon us, and that means that young softball and baseball players have an opportunity to be coached by varsity softball and baseball players.  The Lansing Recreation Department offers baseball and softball clinics every year as part of the warm up to the baseball/softball season.  This year the baseball clinic is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 19th from 10 to Noon, and the softball clinic for Thursday the 21st, also from 10 to noon.

"It gives them a little jump start," says Lansing Recreation Director Steve Colt.  It's all about repetitions no matter what you're doing, whether it's reading, a physical activity, or whatever.  Repetitions make you better.  This is another place to get more reps in a different and fun setting with your friends over the vacation for a couple of hours.  It's a neat thing to do."
